Apple CarPlay recently gained support for AI chatbots, and a third app to add support, Grok, is coming soon.
Grok Voice mode coming soon to CarPlay
The latest version of Grok for iPhone already includes a placeholder app for Apple CarPlay. Grok’s CarPlay app doesn’t actually work yet, but the placeholder app confirms that xAI will soon support Apple’s in-car experience.
For now, the app simply launches with a message to users saying, “Grok Voice mode coming soon to CarPlay.” Grok is a feature already built into Tesla cars. Upcoming CarPlay support will bring an AI chatbot experience to nearly every car on the road.

Grok originally started as part of Elon Musk’s xAI company, which merged with X (formerly Twitter) before becoming part of SpaceX.
When Grok Voice mode comes to CarPlay soon, ChatGPT and Perplexity will be joining the party.
Google has shown no signs of supporting CarPlay on Gemini, but Google’s Gemini model will help power the new Siri in iOS 27 later this year. Apple will also likely release a dedicated Siri app that will also work with CarPlay.
We hope the team at X also considers CarPlay support for the recently released XChat app. You can see the top CarPlay apps already available here.
Grok for iOS is available on the App Store.
