Miami Grand Prix: Cue talks F1 movie sequel, streaming rights expansion and Tarnas’ love of racing

As the 2026 Formula 1 season kicks off in Miami with the first of three annual races in the US, Eddie Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services and health, spoke to reporters about the company’s growing involvement in the sport, including John Tarnas’ passion for racing. Here are the details:

Cue says Ternas will strengthen Apple’s relationship with F1

According to reports ReutersEddie Cue told reporters at the Miami Grand Prix that he was “hopeful and hopeful” that a sequel to F1: The Movie would be made.

His comments come more than two months after F1: The Movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke out. BBC Apple has announced that a sequel to the Academy Award-winning film is “officially in the works.”

This followed comments from Eddy Cue himself, who addressed the topic at Apple’s TV press day a few days ago.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, who was on stage with Cue at the time, told reporters he was “looking forward to it” after Cue jokingly raised the possibility of a sequel.

Returning to the Miami Grand Prix, Cue also talked about Apple’s desire to expand streaming rights to F1 races around the world.

From Reuters:

“This sport is not licensed on a global scale,” he added. “Do we want to be able to grow into other regions and markets? Yes, we do.

“But it’s definitely the right way to start in the US, which is a huge market for us, and be able to develop from there. And that’s what we’re focused on right now. The easiest way for us to continue to grow is to make sure we make this a huge success.”

“And of course, it would be great if we could expand that.”

Lastly, Cue also mentioned John Tarnas’ love of motorsports, claiming that Apple’s next CEO is more interested in motorsports than Tim Cook.

“John actually drives Porsches and participates in amateur racing,” he explained. “He was actually supposed to be here this weekend, but he’s at Laguna Seca.

“So don’t worry, he’s going to do more races than Tim. He’s a big, big fan of F1, it’s well known and he’s a big supporter, so you’ll continue to see full support from him.”

Apple is investing heavily in the Miami GP, including a special 3D experience in Apple Maps and a takeover of the homepage of its website.

If you live in the US and are an Apple TV subscriber, you can watch the race this Sunday, May 3rd at 4pm ET, with the sprint and qualifying rounds set for Saturday, May 2nd at 12pm ET and 4pm ET, respectively.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month and includes popular TV shows and movies like Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, Silo, and more.
