The first reports of a major new design for the Apple Watch date back to 2023, so we probably shouldn’t hold our breath based on the latest claims. original bloomberg According to reports, Apple Watch X will be released in 2024 or 2025.
Leaker Instant Digital doesn’t seem to have any new information about the upcoming redesign, but rather refers to the original report and says it will finally arrive this year. But they keep repeating the claim that it will break compatibility with existing bands…
That’s because existing band attachment methods rely on relatively thick case thicknesses to accommodate them. For a slimmer case, Apple is said to be considering a magnetic attachment instead.
Starting with the original Apple Watch, the band slid onto the side of the chassis and was attached with a locking mechanism. Keeping the design the same allows the band to be compatible with old and new models, but it does have its drawbacks. Officials involved in the development of the new Apple Watch say the system takes up a lot of space, but it could be better equipped with a larger battery or other components.
To be clear, Mr. Garman did not say that Apple had it. absolutely I have decided to switch to a magnetic system, just that I might do so.
I acknowledged at the time that such a change would upset a lot of people, as some of them have invested a lot of money into the band. Some official bands, such as the Space Black Link Bracelet and the Hermès Series, come with price tags approaching $500, and more fashion-conscious owners invest in multiple bands to accessorize different outfits. Having to abandon this investment is painful.
But I also argued that it is inevitable some point. The interior is so dense that it’s impossible to significantly reduce case thickness while preserving battery capacity unless that space is reclaimed from elsewhere, and the band’s connectors are the only realistic prospect.
You can use that space to extend the battery outwards, allowing for a much slimmer battery.
I switched from an Apple Watch to an Oura smart ring so I don’t think about this anymore, but what do you think? Take the poll and share your thoughts in the comments.
