Shark’s new PowerDetect Transformer converts between upright, stick, and handheld configurations from a single modular unit.
Full upright mode delivers the most powerful suction of the three modes and is targeted for deep cleaning of carpets and hardwood floors through a dual brushroll system that captures more dirt, debris, and hair than single-brush alternatives in both upright and stick configurations.
This dual brushroll design also addresses a persistent maintenance frustration in the vacuum cleaner category, as it actively removes wrapped hair during the cleaning pass, rather than letting it build up on the brush, which typically requires scissors to resolve after the fact.
Switching to stick mode involves removing the main canister via a one-click mechanism. This maintains the dual brushroll system that defines PowerDetect’s range, while slimming down the unit to fit into tight spaces and making transitions between modes more functionally consistent than the step-down performance found in some convertible competitors.
Beyond the stick configuration, completely removing the wand produces a handheld vacuum cleaner, and each of the compact modes uses a secondary canister placed near the handle to collect dirt during use, rather than returning it to the main body.
When the transformer returns to full configuration, its secondary canister is automatically connected to the larger upright canister. This eliminates the need to manage two separate dust cups and distinguishes systems from convertible designs that require manual emptying at each stage.
While the modular vacuum cleaner category has expanded significantly in recent years, with Eufy introducing its own transformative models that move between robotic, stick and handheld forms, Shark’s approach starts with an upright base rather than a robotic platform, reflecting different cleaning priorities for homes that prioritize carpet and floor performance above all else.
The Shark PowerDetect Transformer is available now through the Shark website and TikTok shop, with prices starting at $529 for the standard model and rising to $650 for bundles that add tools and heads for households with pets.
