Apple said little about tvOS 27 during today’s WWDC keynote, but the update exists and is currently available in beta. However, two previously supported Apple TV models are not compatible with tvOS 27.
tvOS 27 is not supported on Apple TV HD or 1st generation Apple TV 4K
If you watched today’s WWDC keynote, you may have been surprised to hear that Apple is planning a new tvOS 27 update.
Part of that is due to the unique format of the event, which doesn’t follow the typical “one OS at a time” approach.
But that’s also because Apple has said little about tvOS.
Some new features that we know about are mentioned in the slide along with many other features from other platforms.
And now, thanks to Aaron Perris and his post on X, we know about tvOS 27 compatibility.
According to Perris, Apple TV HD and first-generation Apple TV 4K are not supported in tvOS 27.
New Apple TV 4K hardware is set to launch this fall, and rumors suggest that Apple Intelligence will be introduced to the platform for the first time.
Apple didn’t announce much about tvOS 27 today, as new AI features may be limited to unreleased hardware. However, some bigger features are expected to be introduced this fall.
