ChatGPT now lets you run Homey smart homes in one click

Homey is taking another step to make AI a core part of the smart home. This time I’m running it by connecting directly to ChatGPT.

Athom has launched a native integration that allows users to connect their Homey setup to ChatGPT with one click. As a result, much of the friction previously associated with linking AI tools into a complete smart home system is eliminated.

Previously, connecting Homey to larger language models required more technical effort. This process often relied on the Homey Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which was introduced earlier this year. Although powerful, it was not suitable for beginners. But new integrations change that and bring AI control to ChatGPT in a more immediate and accessible way.

Once connected, ChatGPT will be able to interact directly with the Homey environment. This includes renaming devices, reorganizing zones, and creating or updating both standard and advanced flows. Previously, users had to manually build automation logic step by step. Now you can easily write what you want and let ChatGPT translate it into something Homey can do.

In practice, that could mean calling for a “good night routine that dims the lights, locks the doors, and lowers the thermostat” and turns that into a usable flow without looking into individual automation cards. Therefore, it is less about replacing Homey’s existing system and more about lowering the barrier to building complex setups.

This integration works across the Homey ecosystem, including Homey Cloud, Homey Pro, Homey Pro Mini, and self-hosted Homey Server installations. This ensures consistency whether you’re running a completely local setup or a cloud-connected home.

For users who prefer other AI assistants, nothing is taken away. Existing MCP servers continue to support platforms such as Claude. As a result, ChatGPT is no longer the only entry point, but an additional entry point.

The timing highlights how quickly Homey is expanding its AI footprint. In recent weeks, the platform has pushed its interface to more surfaces. This includes new Android TV apps and LG webOS apps that turn your TV into a complete smart home dashboard. With the addition of ChatGPT to the mix, Homey is firmly establishing itself as a system that can be controlled from almost anywhere. You can use almost any format without having to open a traditional app.
