Pedometer++ 8 brings Apple Watch-friendly design refresh and Expedition mode

Pedometer++ has logged many miles since we first unlocked step tracking on iPhone 5s in 2013. After nearly 13 years of updates, version 8.0 arrives with a redesigned Apple Watch experience, including an all-new Expeditions Mode. Pedometer++ is also touting a “very easy-to-use workout picker” for Apple Watch users who are frustrated with watchOS 26’s Workout app.

Expedition Mode enhances Apple Watch workout tracking for longer by conserving battery

Apple redesigned its Workout app in watchOS 26, but not everyone likes the current workout picker.

While Apple has fixed its biggest usability issues, Pedometer++ 8 provides a more familiar experience for longtime Apple Watch users.

Scroll down the step counter and you’ll see an updated workout picker to start a new walk, run, or hike. We’ve redesigned this picker for maximum ease of use. We want users to be able to quickly and easily select their workout type and feel confident scrolling and tapping on one of our large, clear touch targets.

Additionally, version 8.0 adds a new Expedition mode to workout tracking for Pedometer++ Premium subscribers. This mode tracks the same type of workout while optimizing battery life for long-term activity tracking.

This new mode saves battery life on long hikes, walks, and runs by disabling constant heart rate tracking and instead choosing to use only the basic heart rate tracking provided by Apple Watch. (…) This mode allows you to tackle big outings with a map on your wrist that lasts all day.

Premium subscribers can save up to 40% on battery life when tracking workouts in Expedition Mode.

Pedometer++ includes playful design updates throughout the app

Pedometer++ 8’s new design isn’t limited to the aforementioned “very easy-to-use workout picker.” In fact, it starts from the Pedometer++ home screen on your Apple Watch. This one is bolder and more colorful than before.

Pedometer++ 8.0 is centered around a completely rebuilt and redesigned Apple Watch app. The bold new look focuses on your key metrics for the day: steps climbed, miles traveled, and stairs climbed. This design uses our trademark colors to highlight how close you are to your daily step goal, and you’ll see semicircles fill in as you progress.

The updated design also extends to the active workout view.

During your workout, Pedometer++ on Apple Watch displays a custom map with heart rate and workout metrics such as HR zones, speed, and elevation change. All of these screens are designed to be fully readable on the move. We’ve worked to ensure that all the information you need is available without cluttering the interface.

Whether you’re frustrated with Apple’s Workout app or want a fun and playful way to track your daily steps, Pedometer++ is always worth installing on your Apple Watch and iPhone.
