Apple released the all-new MacBook Neo earlier this year, and it’s been a huge success in every way. Here’s everything we know so far about the next in line for Apple’s most affordable laptop.
Features of MacBook Neo 2
A19 pro chip
The current MacBook Neo is powered by the A18 Pro chip, the same chip used in the iPhone 16 Pro. According to reports bloombergApple is working on the next generation MacBook Neo with the A19 Pro chip.
In terms of performance, the A19 Pro is around 10-15% faster than the A18 Pro in single-core and multi-core CPU tests. The GPU performance gains are even bigger, with benchmarks showing up to 40% improvements on the A19 Pro. This is because every GPU core in A19 Pro has a built-in neural accelerator.
The A19 Pro chip is also used in the flagship iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air.
According to reporter Tim Culpan, Apple will likely use a “binned” version of the A19 Pro chip in the MacBook Neo. The iPhone 17 Pro’s A19 Pro chip has a 6-core GPU, while the MacBook Neo version of the chip may have a 5-core GPU.
Increased memory
One of the compromises with the MacBook Neo is that it has 8GB of RAM. Currently, the rest of Apple’s Mac lineup starts with 16 GB of RAM.
The next-generation MacBook Neo will not have more than 16GB of RAM. Instead, it is expected to offer 12GB of RAM thanks to the aforementioned A19 Pro.
As I mentioned in the review, I don’t think the MacBook Neo’s only 8GB of RAM is a major limitation. Still, the price increase for the next generation model is a big step forward.
New AI features
The combination of the A19 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM upgrade should also unlock support for Apple’s more powerful on-device AI models announced at WWDC. This model allows for a more accurate dictation experience and new options for customizing Siri’s voice.
The current MacBook Neo does not support this feature as it has an A18 Pro chip and 8GB of RAM.
new color
MacBook Neo comes in a variety of fun colors, including citrus, blush, indigo, and silver. bloomberg Apple reports that its plan is to update the MacBook Neo with new colors “regularly.”
There are no details on what colors the next-generation MacBook Neo will be available in.
MacBook Neo 2: Release date and overview
Apple released the current MacBook Neo in March. Tim Culpan reports that the A19 Pro version of this machine is expected to be released sometime in 2027.
