Amazon has launched Alexa.com, the web browser version of its Alexa+ assistant, in the UK.
The browser connection comes after months of anticipation since Amazon teased browser access when Alexa+ was launched in March as the most significant upgrade to the company’s voice assistant yet.
Alexa.com takes over the core functionality of Alexa+, allowing users to manage their calendars, update to-do lists, control compatible smart home devices, and ask questions directly from their browser, without opening a dedicated mobile app.
This suite of features makes Alexa.com more of a complete productivity hub than a simple voice interface, as it can handle scheduling and housekeeping tasks that previously required an Echo speaker or the Alexa phone app.
Browser access also eliminates the long-standing requirement to sit close to an Echo smart speaker, since Alexa+ can now be accessed on any computer with an internet connection, rather than being limited to Amazon’s own hardware ecosystem.
This change is important for households with a variety of devices. Laptop or desktop users can start a task on Alexa.com and complete it later on the Echo Show or mobile app without having to repeat the task.
Alongside Alexa.com, Amazon has also updated its mobile app with an AI-focused interface. It updates in parallel and can carry over conversations between your phone, browser, and Echo device without losing context.
This cross-device push reflects broader changes among AI assistants, with Google recently extending Gemini to its Chrome browser in the UK as major platforms compete to give users access to their assistants no matter where they work.
There is no additional charge for browser access for Amazon Prime members who already have an Alexa+ subscription. Additionally, early access customers can start using Alexa.com right away from any supported web browser.
Amazon has not confirmed the date when access to Alexa.com will expand beyond early access customers to the rest of the Alexa+ subscriber base across the UK, and a wider rollout schedule remains unclear for now.
