Logitech mouse stops working on Mac for embarrassing reasons, requires manual fix

If your Logitech mouse on your Mac has stopped working properly, you’re not alone, and the problem is happening for some very embarrassing reasons.

This problem means that you can’t even update the app automatically to fix the issue. Instead, patches must be installed manually.

A Redditor highlighted an issue he experienced with his MX Master 3S yesterday.

I’ve been using the MX Master 3S for Mac for almost two years now with very few problems. Suddenly today I noticed that my mouse scroll direction randomly changes and all of the additional buttons don’t work as intended. So I tried to open the Logi+ app to see if anything had changed, such as an update, but I encountered that the app was stuck in a boot loop. I’ve tried everything from resetting the laptop, resetting the mouse (I don’t think the mouse is the problem, but just in case), force quitting the app, and doing a fresh install, but nothing has worked.

A fellow Redditor quickly identified the cause. Logitech had allowed the Apple Developer Certificate to expire.

Not only can the companion app not run because the certificate is no longer valid, it can no longer be automatically renewed for the same reason.

To the company’s credit, it quickly admitted that it was an unforgivable mistake.

I dropped the ball here. This is an unacceptable mistake. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

The company has created a support page with steps to resolve the issue.
