Recently, Apple announced yet another price hike for its Apple TV+ service. This time, the increase was 30% from $9.99 per month to $12.99 per month. It has received several price increases after the service launched in 2019 for $4.99 a month. But this new price hike could open the door to something that Apple reportedly has been considering for quite some time. Advertised support plans.
Apple TV+ Price History
As mentioned earlier, Apple TV+ started at $4.99 a month when the service first launched in 2019. If you purchased a new Apple device, there was a generous one-year free trial window. This was to put people’s feet in the door as the service had a much weaker catalog at the time.
Now, Apple TV+ has been getting many big hits over the years – Severance, Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and many others. The company gradually increased its prices to $6.99 in 2022 and $9.99 in 2023. Last year we had a break, but now it’s back to $12.99 in 2025.
Previously, the company announced a price increase for its Apple One subscription bundle when it raised its TV+ price, but this time it didn’t, making the service even better value.
Apple TV+ was an ad-free service with family sharing when it was $4.99 and still at $12.99, but that could potentially change.

Advertising support tier?
There have been many rumors over the years about Apple’s commitment to the ad support tier for Apple TV+, with the latest report being last year. Apple also employs a number of advertising executives from other companies, which appears to suggest that ad-supported TV+ tiers are ongoing.
With the new Apple TV+ price tag, which costs $12.99 a month – I think it’s a great opportunity for Apple to launch its ad support tier for $6.99 a month. This is pretty much in line with what Disney+ does, with its standalone ad-free plan at $15.99 per month and ad-supported plans at $9.99 per month. That $6 price gap seems to resonate well with consumers.
In the future, if you want to earn additional revenue from Apple TV+, you could see Apple charge a premium for family sharing, but I don’t think this will be on the card anytime soon.
summary
Overall, this new price hike will make it more likely that we will be able to see ad-supported TV+ tier in the near future.
What do you think about the potential ad-supported TV+ plans? Do you pay $6.99 a month or is it too hurry? Please let us know in the comments.
