Xiaomi’s new self-installing smart lock is perfect for renters

Xiaomi has launched a self-installing smart lock designed to work with your existing door hardware. The lock model BHR07XDGL fits a physical key or knob and automatically unlocks. This design makes installation easier without the need to remove the original lock.

The lock is already available in Spain, but support pages on the UK and Italian versions of the site suggest it will be rolled out more widely in Europe soon. Pricing in other regions is not yet confirmed, but availability outside of China has expanded significantly.

Moving on to the lock itself, its functionality extends beyond simple installation. Locks include tamper-proof alerts, automatic locks, and matter support. Matter compatibility ensures integration with major smart home ecosystems such as Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.

Renters benefit the most because locks avoid permanent changes to the door. Locks contain a physical key or knob that is mechanically rotated to unlock the lock. This approach avoids complicated installation and makes removal easier when the tenant moves out. For renters, this lock provides security without landlord approval or professional installation. This way the design remains practical.

Meanwhile, auto-lock ensures your door is securely locked after it’s closed, anti-tamper alerts notify you of suspicious activity, and Matter Screen integration ensures your lock works seamlessly with other devices, from smart lights to security cameras.

This release follows Xiaomi’s smart door lock M40 Pro, which was launched only in China. This model offered 12 unlocking methods, including palm vein and fingerprint authentication. In comparison, this self-installing version focuses on simplicity and accessibility for the global market.

Unfortunately, availability is limited at the moment. Yes, the lock is listed on Xiaomi’s online store in Spain, but other regions are still waiting for confirmation. Expansion for this device seems imminent, given that support pages are already live in the UK and Italy.

This lock highlights a growing trend of smart home devices suitable for rental. Products that avoid permanent installation are equally appealing to tenants and versatile people. Xiaomi’s self-installing smart lock combines ease of use with the latest security, making it one of the most practical smart home launches this year.
