The wait is over – WiiM has officially entered the smart speaker game. Its first model, WiiM Sound, may be exactly the Sonos challenger many have been waiting for.
Announced in May 2025 and available to order now, WiiM Sound represents the company’s boldest step beyond popular streamers like WiiM Pro Plus. On paper, this is an attractive debut as it supports 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res audio streaming and features a small cylinder that produces a powerful 100W of audio power.
Flexibility is also a big draw. The speakers can run alone from a stereo pair or participate in a multi-speaker setup, and can also serve as the surround or center channel of a Dolby 5.1 system. That versatility, combined with WiiM’s strong reputation for affordability and performance, puts WiiM squarely in Sonos territory.
Inside, a 4-inch woofer and dual tweeters drive the sound, and built-in room correction automatically adjusts audio to suit your space. WiiM Sound is also compatible with the latest connectivity standards as it is compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 with LE audio, Ethernet, and a 3.5 mm Aux port.
Controls vary. For playback and smart home integration, you can use the WiiM app, the included voice remote, or the 1.8-inch touch screen on top.
At £299/€349/$299, or about AU$459, the WiiM Sound sits between the Sonos Era 100 and Era 300 and competes directly with Sonos’ midrange speakers.
If WiiM can provide the same reliable ecosystem it has built with its streamer, this could be the start of a true Sonos rival and a wake-up call for the multi-room audio market.
