This week, The Weather Channel released a new version of its Storm Radar app, introducing a customizable AI weather presenter and more.
Customize your own AI weather presenter
Storm Radar is a data-rich weather forecast app for iPhone and iPad. It features hyperlocal weather event notifications, much like Apple Weather.
In our testing, we also appreciated additional types of weather event alerts, such as nearby lightning strikes during thunderstorms.
The inclusion of an AI weather presenter is a key feature of the latest update.
The Weather Channel uses artificial intelligence to transform raw weather data into official weather presentations.
You can use chatbots to ask questions about the weather and provide weather forecasts like a news presenter.
Personality and delivery are customizable so you can truly make it your own.

This is a fun way to use AI, especially if you’re interested in weather data. As with all current AI chatbot technologies, the actual benefits available vary.
For example, we asked when the best time to run today would be based on weather conditions.
While I was looking for an answer based on sunlight and temperature, the AI instead suggested that the best time to run was past and that another day would be better. Reasonable enough, but not quite what I wanted.
Still, it’s a lot of fun to query an AI chatbot with information, especially about weather data.
I also really like the iPad version of the app. I feel like they make good use of the large canvas.
Beyond AI weather forecasting
Regardless, AI is just one aspect of the new Storm Radar app released this week.
More important features include:
- Smarter real-time storm warning: Receive real-time precipitation, lightning, and severe weather advisories from NOAA and the National Weather Service.
- High resolution single site radar: Pro-level details with over 12 parameters for storm strength and movement.
- Crystal clear radar and professional storm layer: Experience advanced, fluid map layers, including a modern mosaic radar that provides high-resolution storm information.
- User-focused design: Simplified navigation and improved legends help you understand weather data quickly and clearly, including a choice between enhanced Pro and Classic experiences.
- Easy-to-use, personalized experience: Customize the app by changing the order of widgets on your home screen, integrating your personal calendar, and seeing when the weather can affect your plans.
- Data from the world’s most accurate weather forecaster: The Weather Company leverages proprietary predictive models, AI technology, and a team of expert meteorologists to provide real-time, hyperlocal conditions.
Storm Radar for iPhone and iPad is available for free on the App Store. Premium features start at $3.99 per month or $19.99 per year.
Weather Channel Premium Pro unlocks all Storm Radar premium features for $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year.
