watchOS 27 is coming soon, adding two apps to your Apple Watch, useful tap gestures, a new default home screen, three health-related upgrades, and more.
Another watchOS 27 addition is aimed at extending battery life on the Apple Watch.
Proactive battery extension notifications are a new type of alert that appears on Apple Watch.
If you receive a battery extension alert, it means watchOS 27 has detected that there are certain features you never use that you can disable to save battery life.
These include gestures, “Raise to Speak” to summon Siri, reminders to start a workout, and more.
Each of these features includes background processing that can affect battery life.
Therefore, watchOS 27 can automatically disable these features when the system detects that they are not being used at all. You will then receive a “Battery Extended Notification” informing you that this will occur and giving you an opportunity to keep your battery alive.
If you use these features regularly, you should not see this alert. Of course, if you want to save battery, you can always choose to open settings and disable it manually.
Apple doesn’t say exactly how much battery life users will gain by disabling these features. But clearly this power savings is worth enough to make it worth building this new battery extension in the first place.
