Achieving consistent heating in every room has long been one of the most difficult and expensive parts of operating modern heating systems. Tado is now aiming to completely eliminate that friction with a new software update for its X Smart Radiator Thermostat. This will bring digital hot water balancing to homes across Europe.
Hot water balancing is widely recognized as a best practice for efficient heating, whether you’re running a traditional boiler or a heat pump. The idea is simple. By ensuring hot water is evenly distributed throughout the system, you avoid burning one room while others remain stubbornly cold. In reality, achieving that balance typically requires calling in a professional, draining water from the system, and replacing the radiator valve, a process that is both time-consuming and expensive.
Tado’s new approach replaces that physical intervention with software. Using the Tado X smart radiator thermostat, the system automatically adjusts the flow of water through each radiator to balance heat throughout your home. There’s no need to touch pipes, drain the system, or replace existing valves, and installation takes minutes instead of hours.
The company says the result is not only improved consistent comfort, but also improved efficiency. By optimizing the flow across the radiator, the heating system can operate closer to its ideal performance point, reducing wasted energy and helping to reduce overall consumption, which is particularly important for heat pump users.
The hot water balance feature is now available to all homes using Tado X devices. This feature is included free of charge for users who connect their Tado Heat Pump Optimiser X to a Panasonic AQUAREA heat pump. Other users can access it as part of the Tado AI Assist subscription for €3.99 per month.
