Tapo, TP-Link’s smart home brand, has a new twist. A solar-powered floodlight camera called Tapo C615F requires very little sunlight and makes home security easy.
The Tapo C615F device may be small, but it’s packed with features, especially considering its initial $89.99 launch price.
This gives you 2K video, 360-degree panning, 130-degree tilt range, and an ultra-bright 800 lumen LED floodlight that you can control yourself or let motion detection handle it for you. The angle of the light can be adjusted, so you can illuminate your desired location. AI-powered tracking features track people, cars, and even pets without the need for a subscription. It also features a two-way radio with microphone and speaker, color night vision, and an IP65 rating.
You can use it even when it’s in the corner of your backyard, so you don’t have to worry about wiring or looking for an outlet. Tapo says 45 minutes of sunlight per day can power the camera for a full 24 hours.
If you don’t have enough sunlight, there’s no need to panic. The built-in battery can last up to 140 days on standby, depending on how often you activate the camera and floodlight.
The camera supports local storage via a microSD card (up to 512 GB) or cloud storage via Tapo Care starting at $3.49 per month or $34.99 per year.
This isn’t Tapo’s first solar-powered security camera, but it’s probably the most practical one yet. The C615F is a standout product with smart energy usage, powerful floodlights, and full 360-degree coverage, and looks like one of the best smart cameras under $100.
It is currently only available in the US, but will be available in Europe soon.
