SwitchBot’s AI hub supports OpenClaw

SwitchBot’s new AI hub is a truly smart addition, and with native support for OpenClaw, it takes smart home control to a whole new level of intuitiveness.

OpenClaw is an open source AI assistant designed for real-world tasks, and now SwitchBot is building that functionality directly into its hub. There’s no need to move between different apps or grapple with complex settings. With AI Hub, you can manage everything by simply sending natural language messages through the platforms you use every day, like WhatsApp, iMessage, and Discord.

OpenClaw updates will be delivered via over-the-air (OTA) push at the end of February. Once activated, the AI hub turns into a powerful local home AI agent. This means you can connect to a variety of large-scale language models and use them to automate everything from lighting and security to home appliances.

By keeping OpenClaw’s deep system-level access in a dedicated hub, SwitchBot also carefully addresses security concerns, ensuring a secure environment for all AI operations.

But AI Hub is about more than just OpenClaw. It’s also the first edge hub with visual language model (VLM) capabilities, giving you a near-human understanding of what’s going on in your home.

When combined with a SwitchBot camera or video doorbell, it can recognize specific real-world events, such as someone falling or a pet running away, and instantly send context-rich alerts.

This is a significant advance beyond basic motion detection, allowing the system to learn routines and even proactively suggest actions, such as unlocking a smart lock, when a recognized family member approaches the door.

For tech-savvy users, it also doubles as a powerful network video recorder (NVR) with built-in Frigate integration, supports up to 8 cameras, features facial recognition and locally stored data expandable up to 16TB. Easily find specific moments in footage thanks to AI-powered video search. Daily home reports keep you informed without the hassle of frequent notifications.

SwitchBot’s skills platform will integrate with OpenClaw in March, ultimately enabling advanced cross-platform automation with Home Assistant, Apple Home, and Google Home. This means you can control devices across these different ecosystems using simple conversational commands.

With support for over 100 SwitchBot devices, acting as a Matter bridge for up to 30 products, and dual-band Wi-Fi, the AI hub is seriously designed to be the undisputed central brain of the modern smart home.

SwitchBot’s AI Hub brilliantly combines OpenClaw support with high-end AI analytics and seamless automation. This is more than just hardware. It’s a truly conversational and proactive assistant that makes smart home management feel really easy.
