Siri Shortcuts now work with Samsung’s SmartThings

The latest update to Samsung’s SmartThings platform has come as a pleasant surprise for Apple users. It has full support for Siri Shortcuts. No more juggling apps or fiddling with hubs. With the integration, you can now tell Siri to run SmartThings routines directly from your iPhone, iPad, or even HomePod.

Previously, Apple users had to rely on the SmartThings app or a compatible hub to manage their devices and routines. According to The Verge, with Siri Shortcuts, SmartThings routines can now be triggered by a simple “Hey, Siri, good morning” or other common voice commands. That means the house wakes up with you, the lights come on, the coffee makes, the blinds go up. Everything is now hands-free and hassle-free.

Siri Shortcuts, a built-in automation feature in iOS, allows users to perform tasks, automations, and sequences all with a single command. You can set it up yourself in the Shortcuts app, or you can use the one Samsung has added inside SmartThings. For those who live in both the Apple and Samsung worlds, this is a big step, allowing them all to speak a little better to each other.

Samsung doesn’t stop there. The company is also rolling out enhancements to its SmartThings app across Apple devices. With Apple Watch, you can now scroll across all your devices, send commands, and trigger routines without having to hold your phone. Additionally, if your iPhone has iOS 16 or later installed, Live Activity lets you control up to five recent devices directly from the lock screen.

This update is part of a growing trend for companies to drive cross-platform smart home compatibility, aligning with efforts like Matter to make connected devices work seamlessly across the ecosystem. And for Apple users who already own a SmartThings device, new features in Siri will make automating everyday tasks faster and easier to use.
