The Season 3 finale of The Shrink is now available to watch on Apple TV, and today a new interview with co-creator Bill Lawrence revealed a lot about what Season 4 will be about.
The scaled-down season 4 brings back the entire ensemble, adds a “significant” time jump, and new storylines
Bill Lawrence is the creator of three of Apple TV’s best comedies: Ted Lasso, Bad Monkey, and Shrinking.
Today, in conjunction with the airing of The Shrink Season 3 finale, the series’ co-creator revealed the following. hollywood reporter There are a lot of details about what will happen in season 4.
First, Lawrence explained why the season 3 finale felt like it could be a series finale. He said, “This is the ending of the three-season story that we pitched…this is the finale of that three-season story.” The original plan was for only three seasons, and the team wanted to honor that original vision.
So what happens next in season 4?
Most importantly, Lawrence confirmed that “the whole ensemble is coming back.” Yes, so does Harrison Ford. Lawrence explains:
It’s no coincidence that Alice goes to school at Wesleyan University and that at the end of the finale she goes to Paul’s house for dinner… so, yes, Harrison is back on the show.
As for the plot of Season 4, Shrinking will be tackling an entirely new story since the originally planned three-season arc has ended. “My only tip is that I don’t think we’ll ever get away from where the show started, with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford,” Lawrence says.
There will be a time jump in Season 4, which he says is “definitely significant and going to be more than a year or two.”
I won’t reveal what the new story is, but I’ve already given you a hint. If it starts with Jason listening to a song and crying and remembering his wife, you’ll think, “I thought this already happened in the last three seasons? I thought he got over it?” I think people who watch it will also enjoy it.
In other words, the new story doesn’t revisit the familiar ground of Jimmy grieving, forgiving, and moving on.
Other information Mr. Lawrence shared included:
- The plan is for at least two more seasons, but The Shrink could continue into season 6.
- Michael J. Fox: ‘I’ll definitely be back’
- He teased that a spin-off could happen. “I would love to see a show about where Brian, played by Michael Urie, goes in life… All the secondary characters are the main characters in their own shows.”
The first three seasons of Shrinking are available on Apple TV.
Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month, but you can also get discounts through Apple One bundles.
