The Severance season 2 finale left viewers shaken up when it aired earlier this year, leaving a lot of questions about what would happen to Mark S. and his friends in season 3. Here’s what we know so far about Severance Season 3 and when it’s expected to premiere on Apple TV.
Apple officially greenlights ‘Severance’ Season 3
Severance is Apple TV’s biggest hit ever, surpassing even Ted Lasso in popularity.
So it’s no surprise that Apple has officially renewed the show for another season.
The green light for Severance Season 3 was announced shortly after the release of the Season 2 finale.
Fortunately, the show’s creative team didn’t have to wait for Apple’s official approval to begin work on the new season, and began writing it even before Season 3 was picked up.
Writers are currently working on Severance Season 3, which includes important additions.
At a roundtable discussion in February hollywood reporterBen Stiller shared that Severance Season 3 is “in the works” and that the Los Angeles writers’ room is actively working on the show.
Speaking of the program’s scriptwriter, last spring pack It was reported that Severance’s creative team has undergone a major overhaul.
During Severance’s first two seasons, Ben Stiller made an important new hire due to reported conflicts between creator Dan Erickson and writer/producer Mark Friedman.
Matt Belloni writes: pack:
Stiller met with several writer-producers to hammer out a third season before the likely WGA strike, and was ultimately hired by House of Cards, who most recently worked on Disney+’s excellent Andor. They secretly hired creator Beau Willimon… Willimon signed a big deal to be part of Season 3, but quickly realized he needed help with Season 2 as episode costs ballooned into the $20 million range. So for several months, Willimon helped create the second half of season 2 and the template for season 3, but the show was significantly delayed in the process.
Willimon made an important contribution in season 2, but it looks like his influence will be even more evident in the upcoming season 3.
Ben Stiller won’t be directing this time.

Ben Stiller is the main creative force behind Severance, and that continues in season 3.
But one of his most important roles is about to change.
In an interview with Los Angeles TimesDirector Stiller said he won’t be directing any episodes of Severance Season 3. Why? A lot of time will be spent on film projects.
Stiller directed 11 episodes of Severance’s first two seasons, more than half of the total number of episodes. Therefore, his departure from the manager’s chair could be a game-changer.
Filming is scheduled to begin in spring 2026
In a recent interview, Patricia Arquette revealed when she plans to begin filming Season 3 of Severance.
Season 3 produced by Arquette Scheduled to start in spring 2026.
For a little context, Severance Season 2 began production in October 2022, but was not set to premiere on Apple TV in January 2025.
However, the long delays were largely the result of a major Hollywood strike, which abruptly halted production after seven of the ten episodes had been filmed.
When will Season 3 be available on Apple TV?
Anyone who has been watching Severance since the first season knows that the wait between seasons was long.
Due to production issues, rewrites, and Hollywood strikes, there was a gap of nearly three years between the first and second seasons of Severance.
Ben Stiller says of Season 3, “This time we don’t want to make viewers wait three years.”
Even if the expected spring 2026 production start turns out to be true, we shouldn’t expect to see the new season premiere in the same year.
Realistically, Severance Season 3 will probably air on Apple TV From mid to late 2027.
This 2027 return will take approximately one month to produce each episode and an additional six to nine months in post-production for the season. These estimates are consistent with the timing of Season 2, assuming no strike-related delays.
Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month and includes hit TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking.
