Apple is reportedly increasing orders for vapor chambers, suggesting the cooling technology could play a bigger role across its future hardware lineup. Here are the details:

Leaker Fixed Focus Digital posted a post on Weibo claiming that Apple has “significantly increased total orders for vapor chambers,” adding that this is “possibly in preparation for enhanced cooling for the company’s first foldable iPhone and next-generation 20th anniversary model.”
Apple introduced vapor chamber cooling for the first time with the iPhone 17 Pro. This change helped address thermal issues that affected previous models.
Vapor chambers work by vaporizing a small amount of liquid near a heat source, condensing it in a cooler area, and dispersing the heat over a larger surface before returning the liquid and repeating the cycle.

Weibo posts speculate that Apple’s enhancements are targeted at the iPhone Ultra and the rumored 20th anniversary iPhone expected in 2027, but the timing would make more immediate sense for this year’s lineup.
Apple has reportedly asked its suppliers to make about 10 million foldable iPhones available, up from its original goal of 7-8 million units, in addition to about 70 million iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units. All three models are likely to use vapor chamber cooling.
The increase comes after reports suggesting Apple has resolved early concerns about the hinge and manufacturing yields, clearing the way for higher production targets for a September debut.
