Many new features have been added to Google Home

Google has released a number of updates to the Gemini for Home experience. This brings important fixes and welcome improvements to voice controls, addressing both widespread and more niche complaints.

The update also includes improvements to how voice commands handle daily tasks. Commands like “Turn off kitchen” now correctly target only lights, wisely avoiding plugs and unassigned devices. Meanwhile, “Turn off all lights” is now limited to a specific home instead of accidentally affecting multiple locations.

Device context is also clearer now, so Gemini knows what a device is even if the name doesn’t include context.

Location handling is now more robust, and Gemini now strictly uses your home address set in the Google Home app. Google also claims that Gemini is now significantly less likely to abruptly interrupt a user’s conversation, and that common commands like notes, reminders, timers, and routines are now triggered more reliably.

This is a solid effort and addresses a long-standing source of frustration where people keep doing the same thing over and over again or feel like their flow is constantly interrupted.

Music and general answers are also reportedly improved, as the Gemini model has been updated with better support for newly released songs. Premium subscribers will have access to a “live search” of cameras, allowing Gemini to answer questions about the current status of your home via your Nest camera. Support for Nest x Yale Lock is rolling out, and March 2026 update for Nest Wifi Pro is now available to improve mesh performance.

Google has also introduced additional automation starters, including triggers such as “If your security system is triggered…”, “If your device is connected…”, and “If your Pixel tablet is undocked by 9 p.m….”. These new triggers truly expand the possibilities for creating complex, context-aware home automations beyond simple time triggers and basic device state triggers.

The company has not yet published these changes on its support page, but the list of tweaks and fixes is certainly extensive.
