Forget to drill holes and run the wires… Smart security specialist Lorex has announced a home security camera that drives the second to twist into a regular light socket.
The new Lorex 2K Wi-Fi light bulb camera also doubles as a smart (ISH) light, so you won’t be able to give up on the socket and get dark.
It’s now available in the US for $69.99 (or $5 if you need a year of cloud storage). The compact device offers 2K resolution video, 360° pan and tilt movement, and 400 lumens of LED brightness. Everything is packed into a form factor that looks like a slightly larger bulb.
It fits a standard E26 or E27 socket (think pouch or hallway lights), making it a rare win for renters and those who want to skip the ladder and power drill routine.
Once installed, the electric camera will rotate and tilt to fully cover the space indoors or indoors, with all the controls living in the Lorex app. This includes live viewing, playback, lighting schedules and smart alerts.
The built-in 400 lumen LED is not going to blind anyone, but it is sufficient to illuminate the doorway or living room, meaning the color vision on the sides of the camera.
This app allows you to dim the lights and set up automation such as motion-activated lighting and vacation mode.
There is a privacy mode that allows you to temporarily shut down things. Simply tap on the app button and physically rotate the camera inward. It still acts as light in this mode, but the lens is completely covered and recording stops.
IP65 rated cameras are dust-resistant and can handle water jets from any direction, making them OK in most weather conditions. Connects beyond 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
On the smarter aspect of things, 2K light valve cameras can distinguish between people and vehicles, supporting two-way conversations via built-in microphones and speakers.
There are also small sirens if you need to scare someone out.
Video can be stored locally in the cloud via a MicroSD card (up to 256GB, not included), Lorex Fusion NVR, or subscription.
It is now available directly from Lorex.
