The iPad Fold has been rumored for years, but so far none of the predicted release dates have come true. One recent report even suggested that this is a bit of a “wacky experiment” that may never see the light of day.
However, one leaker with a decent track record believes that the product is still in development and that the iPhone Ultra (or iPhone Fold) will be a big step closer to the iPad Fold’s launch.
iPad Fold rumors so far
There was a fair amount of confusion as to exactly what kind of device the company was working on. Early reports suggested it could be a MacBook with a soft keyboard that opens into a very large display. Others have described it as a foldable iPad, and that now seems to be the consensus view.
there was some Degree of consistency regarding device display sizes. Reports variously suggest it will be somewhere in the 18 to 20-inch range before consolidating to 18.8 inches.
Launch timing is inconsistent; bloomberg’s Mark Garman threw a spanner in the works last month, saying it might not launch at all.
The device has been a priority for Ternus, but several people who worked on it say it could end up being a bizarre experiment that never sees the light of day.
iPhone Ultra brings us one step closer
Leaker Digital Chat Station made a short post on Weibo that seems to suggest that the iPad Fold will share the same folding display technology as the iPhone Ultra.
Following supply chain feedback, Apple competitor Widefolding also plans to offer a seamless hinge solution.
Of course, that’s not all that surprising. Apple plans to pursue the same wrinkle-free display and robust folding mechanism for both devices. The only news here is that signs of the iPad Fold still exist within Apple’s supply chain. That’s still no guarantee it’ll see the light of day, but at least its chances seem a little higher.
