Apple’s first foldable iPhone is set to launch this fall, but according to one prominent leaker, inside sources say it will be called the “iPhone Ultra” rather than the “iPhone Fold.”

It’s been a busy week with rumors surrounding the iPhone Fold. Yesterday we received information that this device has reached a major production milestone, and today details of early failures have already been revealed.

Perhaps most notably, Sonny Dickson provided the first dummy model comparison between the iPhone Fold and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

Now, another important rumor has arrived. It has to do with product branding.

According to a new Weibo post from leaker Digital Chat Station, the foldable iPhone will likely be called the “iPhone Ultra” rather than the “iPhone Fold.”

Rumor has it that Apple’s wide-format foldable device will be called the iPhone Ultra. Domestic manufacturers are also reportedly considering following suit and tentatively branding their new foldable products “Ultra,” aiming to compete with Apple across the board in terms of screen form factors, hardware specifications, and pricing.

Naming is often one of the last details leaked about a new product. So it’s unclear how exactly the Chinese manufacturer got Apple’s brand plans.

That being said, there are always benefits within the industry to follow Apple’s lead. In some cases, companies even get ahead of Apple’s moves based on rumors about what Apple is planning to do. So we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple’s naming has already been leaked.

I’ve personally argued in the past that iPhone Ultra makes sense as a name for Apple’s foldable device. Bloomberg’s Mark Garman also recently hinted at the “Ultra” name.

But recently, it has started using other names such as iPhone Duo. The Ultra branding doesn’t feel right on an iPhone that lacks Face ID and has one less camera than the Pro model.

But I’ll admit that Apple’s product names don’t always make the most sense. So if the company decides to call its foldable iPhone Ultra, it would make a strong case that the new model deserves that name.
