This fall’s iPhone 18 lineup will feature an all-new foldable option, but the most popular models will undoubtedly be the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Here are six new features rumored for iPhone 18 Pro.
Revised design: Dynamic island is smaller and the back is unified
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to maintain the basic size and design of this year’s models. However, there are three notable changes that make the design feel fresh.

The dynamic island is smaller thanks to the Face ID component, which moves below the display. This should allow for the smallest display cutout in years.
The iPhone 17 Pro’s two-tone back design has proven to be controversial. To solve this, Apple plans to better blend the colors of the aluminum and glass areas to achieve a unified look.
Rumors regarding iPhone 18 Pro colors suggest that Apple is testing shades of coffee brown, purple, and burgundy. It’s still too early to know what the final colors will be, but the bolder 17 Pro colors seem to be a success.
A20 pro chip
iPhones come with new chips every year. And the A20 Pro chip for the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be a particularly big breakthrough.
The A20 Pro will be Apple’s first chip built on a 2nm process and also features a WMCM (wafer-level multichip module) package.
Both of these advancements should lead to bigger-than-normal improvements over this year’s A19 Pro. Therefore, iPhone 18 Pro is better in performance, efficiency, and AI tasks.

Camera improvements have always been one of Apple’s marquee upgrades for new iPhones.
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to feature a variable aperture main camera that will give you more control over the depth of field (DoF) of your photos. My colleague Ben explains:
You can set a shallow DoF if you want to separate your subject from the background, a medium DoF if you want to separate the background while still being aware of it, and a deep DOF if you want everything in the shot to be in focus.
Other camera changes are expected for the iPhone 18 Pro, but the most notable rumor so far is the variable aperture feature.
Better battery life than ever
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max offer the largest iPhone batteries ever and are proving to be a hit. It looks like Apple will continue to give users more of what they want by increasing the battery size again.
A reputable leaker says that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be thicker and heavier than its predecessor. This is almost certainly to pack a larger battery.
There is no specific mention of the smaller 18 Pro model. However, iPhone 17 Pro rumors initially suggested that only the Pro Max would have a larger battery, and Apple surprised us by offering a similar update to both Pro models. Therefore, both models of iPhone 18 Pro are likely to offer battery upgrades.
camera control 2.0
Camera Control debuted on the iPhone 16 as a dedicated button for the camera. It offers a variety of touch-sensitive gestures to control zoom, exposure, tone, and more. However, many users found this overly complex and unwieldy when used as more than a simple button.
Apple will reportedly update the camera controls on the iPhone 18 series with a more reduced feature set. The touch-sensitive component may be removed and other changes may be made to provide an overall more user-friendly experience.
C2 modem
After years of development, Apple has officially begun replacing Qualcomm’s cellular modems with its own solution. The C1 modem debuted on the iPhone 16e, then C1X appeared on the iPhone Air, and now the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will have the C2 modem.
Apple’s 5G cellular modems have proven to deliver superior performance while offering efficiency and battery improvements compared to Qualcomm’s options. The C2 modem is expected to build on the strong foundation of Apple’s C1 modem when it debuts with the iPhone 18 Pro.

There’s a lot we already know about the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, but we suspect there are a lot of details that haven’t been reported yet. September is still a long way off, so we should get a better idea of the new iPhone 18 Pro’s features as we get closer to launch.
But for now, it looks like the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will offer more of the same improvements users want, including better performance, longer battery life, a redesign, and camera upgrades.
