iPhone 17 Pro issue causes some users to experience speaker hiss when charging

It’s not uncommon for some users to experience issues with newer iPhone models. With the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, many users seem to have encountered a strange hissing noise coming from the speakers while charging.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max users are reporting unexpected noise when charging

Shortly after the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max were released, some users became concerned about the durability of the products due to scratches observed at the Apple Store. This turned out not to be an issue, as Apple adjusted the display settings to reduce the transfer of material from the MagSafe stand to the back of the iPhone.

But today mcroomersJuli Clover reports on another potential issue with the iPhone 17 Pro, “Static electricity or hissing that occurs while charging the iPhone.”

There are multiple discussions about the issue on Reddit, the MacRumors forums, and Apple’s support community, with affected users saying there is a noticeable static noise “like an old radio.” Some people report hearing static when playing audio and lowering the volume, while others say they hear static even when nothing is playing through the speakers. In some cases, people may experience a small crackling or hissing noise when scrolling through a web page while their iPhone is charging, and some people may hear the noise at a low volume even when their iPhone is not on the charger.

Reports of speaker issues seem to vary regarding the severity of the issue. But one of the more extreme cases can be seen (and heard) through this user video.

So far, it appears that users who reported speaker issues in September are still experiencing the issue as of iOS 26.2. Some people have had their issues resolved by replacing their iPhone with a newer model, but for others, the issue persists across multiple models.

This issue may be fixed when iOS 26.3 is released. The release is expected to take place in just a few weeks. However, there doesn’t seem to be any evidence that a fix is coming yet.

Have you experienced any of these issues with your iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max? Let us know in the comments.
