How to get an Apple Watch Series 11 or Ultra 3 for (almost) free

For years, John Hancock has offered members of his Vitality Plus life insurance program a way to earn a (nearly) free Apple Watch by exercising regularly.

The Vitality program recently expanded to include the latest Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. If you’re hoping the Apple Watch can help you with your New Year’s resolutions, here’s how it works and how you can put it to good use.

Reward your workout with a free Apple Watch

Through its Vitality program, John Hancock allows life insurance customers to earn “points” in exchange for regular exercise. These points can be applied toward your monthly payment for a new Apple Watch.

The Vitality program requires users to pay $25 + tax on their first purchase of a new Apple Watch. The remaining balance will be paid in 24 monthly installments. But the key thing to remember is that the more you exercise, the lower your monthly payments will be.

  1. Register for a Vitality member account and complete the Vitality Health Review (VHR).
  2. Order an Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 11, or Apple Watch Ultra 3 and pay the first $25 + tax.
    • If you choose to upgrade to a higher-end watch, an additional initial payment may be required.
  3. Use your Apple Watch to track your workouts across categories like walking, running, cycling, swimming, and more.

How to save points

Here’s a breakdown of how much you’ll pay for your Apple Watch Series 11 or Apple Watch Ultra 3 based on the number of points you earned that month.

  • Zero points: $15.50 per month
  • 240 points: $12.25 per month
  • 360 points: $7.00 per month
  • 500 points: $0.00 per month
