My former colleague, Parker Ortolani, has been experimenting with “atmosphere coding” for several months by piloting large language models with carefully crafted prompts. The GPT-4O and Claude helped him run a functional prototype, but the GPT-5 is the first model to offer the perfect experience he’s been waiting for. Here’s how GPT-5 can be improved on previous models:
Why is GPT-5 suitable for coding?
Parker clearly says in his blog post:
“The good news is that the GPT-5 is simply amazing. It not only has its own design of a beautiful user interface without the need for guidance, but it has become endlessly reliable.
Enlarging that, the biggest leap in vibe coding for the GPT-5 is its design quality and reliability. Previous models such as GPT-4O and Claude could create functional app skeletons, but the user experience often lacked Polish and design-first thinking. They needed heavy prompts to look good and were frequently broken with bugs introduced by the model itself.
In contrast, GPT-5 creates an attractive and coherent interface without explicit design guidance, and in Parker’s experience it has not caused a single build error in Xcode so far.
It is also faster and more capable when solving complex problems. If the GPT-4o requires multiple prompts to troubleshoot technical issues, the GPT-5 can be fixed almost instantly, such as allowing local AI models to parse open web pages in MacOS browser projects.
The GPT-5 is more reliable and versatile. Create complete and diverse projects from a single prompt, including native apps, web simulations, games, and more.
My own GPT-5 coding experience
As for me, the GPT-5, where CHATGPT talks directly to Xcode, was just as transformative. For the first time, I’m building more than just a basic sticker pack. We call the current project LaunchBay.
This is a personal alternative to Apple’s Launchpad, now that the new spotlight is taking over on the Macos Tahoe. It’s not for release (at least still), but it was great because it started with the zero coding experience, ran a functional build and adjusted perfectly through simple English instructions.
Going forward, 9TO5MAC has first reported that ChatGPT integration with SIRI and Apple Intelligence will upgrade from GPT-4o to GPT-5 on iOS 26.
