Govee Floor Lamp 3: Introduction

Govee has been in the floor lamp space for quite some time, helping to start a wave of affordable RGB-heavy standing lights, dating back to the original Lyra in 2021.

The lineup has steadily evolved since then, but Floor Lamp 3 feels like a much bigger step forward than just an incremental update.

This latest model, unveiled at CES 2026, takes the familiar idea of ​​vertical light strips on freestanding poles and pushes it further than before.

Key upgrades center around brightness, coverage, and color accuracy, with Govee focusing on its new LuminBlend+ technology.

In real-world use, this becomes one of the most convincing smart lighting setups the company has ever produced.

design and build

There’s a little assembly required to get started, but the process is very easy, even if you’re not into DIY.

The overall setup follows the familiar Govee floor lamp formula, with a weighted base, three metal poles, and a light strip that runs the full height of the stand.

Complete assembly takes approximately 10 minutes. The Govee also comes with a screwdriver, which perfectly recreates the feel of a flat-packed piece of furniture.

The poles screw in with an audible click and the base has plenty of weight to keep everything stable when upright.

The only part that feels a bit fiddly is threading the light strip through the pole. It takes a little patience, but it’s not difficult.

Unlike the Govee Uplighter, the wiring is already built into the strip itself, so there’s no need to run cables through tubes. Once everything is in place, just connect it to the cable coming out of the base.

The strip itself sits behind a soft diffuser casing that helps smooth out the LEDs and also provides some protection during installation. This is a similar approach to outdoor light strips and successfully eliminates visible hotspots.

The base is where things start to stand out. This is more than just a hunk of metal to keep the lamp upright; it’s a lighting feature in itself.

Dual ring lighting base creates a subtle glow from below and also creates a halo effect around the top edge.

It looks much more upscale than expected and adds an extra layer of ambient lighting even if the main strip isn’t very functional.

It also comes with a physical remote control for quick access to brightness, color temperature, scenes, and music sync without having to open the app. This is essentially an updated version of the controller that first came out with Lyra in 2021.

In terms of placement, you can aim the lamp directly into the room or reflect the light against the wall for a softer, less obtrusive effect. The latter works particularly well here, creating an overall more impressive look.

Setup and apps

It’s very easy to get everything up and running. When you turn it on, the light will cycle through different colors to indicate it’s ready to pair.

You can add it to your smart home using a Matter QR code or connect via Bluetooth via the Govee app.

I went the app route and got Floor Lamp 3 almost immediately without any research. During setup, you will be asked to pair your remote. Just pull the battery tab, press the button, and you’re ready to go.

Like other Matter devices, you’re not tied to Govee’s app and can control the lamp through platforms like Apple Home, SmartThings, Alexa, and Google Home.

That said, if you really want to unlock everything this lamp can do, you’ll be spending most of your time in the Govee app. You can always retrieve Matter codes from within the app later to link to other ecosystems.

The app itself has improved significantly over the past few years. While it may still feel busy and a little overwhelming at first, with a huge number of options on offer, it’s much easier to navigate than before.

The Scenes tab features over 100 lighting effects with names like Mountain Raindrops, Peach Orchard, and Starry Sky, organized into categories such as Atmosphere, Festival, Nature, and Emotion.

The LuminBlend-focused effects really demonstrate what this lamp is capable of, showing how smooth the color transitions are with options like Ukiyo-e.

It also includes AI Lighting Bot 2.0, which allows you to type or speak prompts to generate custom lighting effects. Try things like ‘Campfire’, ‘Halloween Purple Party Atmosphere’ or even ‘West Ham FC Celebration’ and we’ll try to match your request with the right scene.

If you still can’t find what you want, the DIY section gives you full control to build your own effects, share your creations with the wider Govee community, and download those created by others.

Within the app, Floor Lamp 3 is effectively treated as three separate lights. There is a main light strip, a base ring at the top, and a base glow at the bottom.

Each of these is further divided into segments: the strip has eight sections, the top ring has four sections, and the bottom ring has five sections. This allows you to control 17 individual zones, greatly expanding your lighting possibilities and is a big reason why this lamp is better than previous models and cheaper competitors.

The headline brightness is 2100 lumens, which makes a big difference in daily use. The difference is obvious when you compare it to something like the SwitchBot RGBICWW floor lamp, which has up to 1200 lumens, but it also costs nearly three times as much.

While the SwitchBot is a solid budget choice, the Govee operates at a completely different level in terms of brightness, smoothness, and overall refinement.

This is more than just an accent light. It’s more than capable of lighting a large room on its own, and its wide color temperature range of 1,000K to 10,000K allows you to easily transition from very warm to bright daylight lighting.

The 170 degree spread also comes in handy here. Whether aimed directly into a space or reflected off a wall, it covers a much larger area than most upright light strip designs.

Where the Floor Lamp 3 really shines is in its color quality, especially when you consider the different lighting zones. Govee has always been strong in this area, but LuminBlend+ takes it even further, combining all three lighting elements to create a striking overall effect.

Colors are smoother and more natural than before, with much less fragmentation. Pastel colors in particular look more convincing without the banding and uneven transitions that can mar the effect of low-end light.

Double-sided lighting adds to the sense of immersion, shining light both in front and behind to fill the space more evenly. Combine this with the app’s segmented controls and it’s possible to create truly impressive lighting scenes.

Music sync is also included and responds through the built-in microphone or voice from your phone. This isn’t a new feature, but it’s still a fun addition if you also want to use the lamp as part of your party setup.

Floor Lamp 3 feels like Govee has refined the floor lamp formula, rather than just repeating it.

While maintaining the brand’s signature playfulness and customization, this time it’s backed up with truly powerful lighting performance. The brightness, coverage and most importantly the color quality are on target.

Yes, it’s more expensive than many other options, but it’s still better and less expensive than comparable Philips Hue options, and the app can feel a little overwhelming at first. But once you get past that, this is one of the best smart floor lamps you can buy today.
