Google’s Gemini randomly appears on someone’s TV

Google’s Gemini assistant made an early appearance on TV, hinting that its promised widespread rollout may be closer than expected.

This update, which replaces Google Assistant with Gemini, was previously exclusive to TCL’s high-end QM9K series. However, early sightings of Sony’s Bravia set suggest a wider debut may be on the horizon.

It features a new audio selection interface, a distinguishing detail that brings Google TV closer to the company’s smart speakers.

A screenshot posted by a lucky Sony Bravia user includes a new set of menus that walk you through switching from Google Assistant. Decide on permissions and privacy controls, and choose one of 10 voices to become your AI assistant.

The number of voices is the same as the number available on mobile, but the names and tone descriptions are closer to those offered on Google Nest speakers.

Options include bloom, fern, and magnolia, each with its own vibe and pitch description, so you can choose to suit your mood, vibe, or the mood of the day.

Notably, this is the first look at the Google Gemini update in the wild, but the screenshots – which show old Google branding – suggest this is an unfinished release.

Still, this rollout is a bit rough and feels like an unfinished release. Some logos on the setup interface use the old branding, and there is no official confirmation from Google that the rollout has begun.

At the moment, this appears to be an isolated incident, but it provides a brief glimpse of what to expect when Gemini’s rollout begins later this year.
