Apple’s short film ‘The Underdogs’ cleverly introduces Mac security and more

Apple’s new short film “ Underdogs: Blue Screen of Death was posted on the company’s YouTube channel as part of an occasional series first launched in 2019.

It’s a gentle eight-minute comedy that showcases the full range of the company’s ecosystem features while highlighting the security features built into the Mac.

Apple posted its latest video this morning. You can see it below.

The Underdogs prepare for their first-ever trade show, but a PC failure and a blue screen of death threaten their beloved Container Con. Thanks to the security of Apple products, the vulnerable remain unaffected and achieve extraordinary success. See how the magic of Macs, iPhones, and iPads work together to help underdogs meet potential customers, develop new business, and even lend a helping hand to fellow packing companies. This is Apple at Work.

The main message is the security features built into macOS, contrasted with PCs at the trade show suffering blue screens after attacks. Along the way, you’ll be quietly introduced to the full range of Apple’s ecosystem features, including AirDrop, taking business cards and adding contacts, and answering calls on your Apple Watch and transferring them to your iPhone.

Previous shorts in the Apple at Work series were released in 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

The latest of these was not very well received.

The point of contention was the depiction of Thailand in the ad. Various scenes depicted the co-workers traveling around the country. Reactions online criticized the ad for falsely portraying Thailand as underdeveloped and outdated.

Apple said it worked with a local Thai production company on the video, but criticism persisted and the video was quickly taken down.

Hopefully this works better. The film links to the security section of the company’s enterprise microsite.
