Alongside the iPhone 17e, Apple is also working on a refreshed base model iPad. new report from Makotakara We’re highlighting what you can expect from updates to Apple’s cheapest iPad.
Apple released the iPad 11, officially known as the iPad (A16), last March. The A16 chip represented a notable upgrade from its predecessor’s A14 chip, but it wasn’t enough for Apple to offer Apple Intelligence support on the device.
But that looks set to change this year. Makotakara It is reported that this year’s iPad 12 will be equipped with the A18 chip and will be able to support Apple Intelligence. The RAM will also be 8GB, compared to the current model’s RAM of 6GB.
Apple Intelligence is going to be a lot more useful this year, so it’s good to know that Apple plans to make the cheapest iPad that can do the job. This includes more powerful Siri features first announced at WWDC 2024 and new chatbot features in iPadOS 27.
Other than the RAM and performance improvements, the iPad 12 is expected to be the same as the iPad 11. The overall design and chassis are the same.
Apple is also working on a refreshed iPad Air with the M4 chip, which could launch alongside the iPad (A18) this spring. But the iPad upgrade I’m most looking forward to this year is the new iPad mini with OLED, which is reportedly scheduled to launch later this year.
