Apple Watch sleep scores are set to replicate these two smart ring features

Today I saw iOS 26 code suggesting that the Apple Watch Sleep Score feature is in development. The score shows you are ready to work on the next day. This feature also provides a more condensed graphical representation of the currently available sleep stages.

What appears and described looks like a match very close to the two features Oura Smart Ring offers.

Wella ring preparation and sleep score

Every morning, open the Smart Ring companion app and it loads sleep data captured in the middle of the night. Provides two percentage scores. The first is what Oura explains to be ready.

Apple’s “focus score” label appears to explain the same idea. In ourra app, you can tap on the score to see how it calculates.

Also, Wella offers a different sleep score with your sleep duration overview:

Tap this to see a detailed breakdown of your sleep stages.

Apple probably won’t be available in that much detail, but the overall idea looks the same.

Is this useful data?

I don’t know how Apple calculates focus scores, and how closely it replicates the factors used in our apps, so I have to wait and see.

However, I can say I am amazed at how well Wella’s preparation score matches my subjectively how I feel. So the most useful aspect to me was to see how that score is tracked over time and the factors that influence it.

Oula App uses AI to identify important variables and create positive recommendations based on them. For example, I’ve made sure I get the best quality of sleep when I go to bed in the middle of the night, for example, so that’s what I’m aiming for as my usual routine.

I also found that sleep data felt more at ease when I struggled with insomnia matches. My subjective feeling was that I was awake for hours in the middle of the night, but the data showed me a different story. Usually, there was a healthy sleep cycle before and after. Also, from good night sleep, we could actually see that it is very typical for everyone to wake up at some point in the night.

I also found myself falling asleep faster when I was still lying in the dark than when I tried the advice that was sometimes offered to get back to bed after a while.

The best part about this is that it ended the classic insomnia cycle. You worry about not being able to sleep, the fact that you can’t sleep, and the stress makes it difficult to fall asleep. The data ended this overnight for me. When I woke up in the middle of the night, I waited for my calm and to fall asleep again, but soon my insomnia subsided.
