Hypertension notifications now available in 170 regions
Last year, when Apple announced the Hypertension Notification feature as part of watchOS 26, the company said it “plans to notify more than 1 million people with undiagnosed hypertension within a year.”
Here’s what Apple says about how this feature works:
High blood pressure notification on Apple Watch uses data from an optical heart sensor to analyze how your blood vessels respond to your heartbeat. The algorithm works passively in the background, reviewing data over 30 days and notifying users when it detects consistent signs of high blood pressure. Simply by wearing Apple Watch, these notifications provide users with impactful insights into their health conditions related to this widespread condition, so they can initiate potentially life-saving behavior changes or initiate treatments to reduce the risk of serious long-term health events.
At the time, the feature was still awaiting FDA approval, as well as other local regulatory approvals.
Apple said at the time that it would soon roll out Hypertension Notifications to more than 150 countries and territories, but the company has also continued efforts to expand availability.
