Following the success of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Apple today announced that it is expanding Legendary’s Monsterverse with a new spinoff series for Apple TV. Here are the details:
Legendary’s Monsterverse expands on Apple TV
Last month, Apple announced that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters would return for a second season on February 27, 2026. Today, the company announced an expansion of the series that will include a new, untitled prequel series centered around Colonel Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell.
Here’s what Apple has to say about what to expect from the new show:
The spin-off series, starring and executive produced by Russell, tells the story of Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who goes on a secret mission behind enemy lines in 1984 to stop the Soviet Union from unleashing a terrifying new Titan that would destroy the United States and change the course of the Cold War.
The new prequel will be helmed by Joby Harrold, who is also the executive producer of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Apple says its new overall deal with Legendary will expand Harold’s role to oversee Apple TV’s MonsterVerse, which spans new Titans and fan-favorite Titans.

For the uninitiated, as Apple describes it, “Legendary’s Monsterverse is a vast, cross-platform storytelling universe centered on humanity’s fight to survive in a world faced with a devastating new reality. The monsters of our myths and legends are real.”
In addition to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Monsterverse titles include Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and the upcoming sequel Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
Apple has not yet released any details on the new spinoff’s release date, premiere period, or when production will begin.
