If you’ve heard this, stop us. Apple has prepared software updates for its iPhone since 2020 to address the long-standing health complaint filed in only one market.
Specifically, Apple is once again updating its iPhone 12 model to address the problem-free issues pushed by French health authorities. This time, software updates will be applied to all iPhone 12 models in Europe, not just France.
Here’s a summary from the report two years ago:
- French authorities determined that the iPhone 12 would no longer pass restrictions on radiation exposure testing on the day Apple abolished the iPhone 12 and announced the iPhone 15.
- Apple downplayed the issue and confirmed it would work with regulators to improve the situation
- Apple has submitted a software update for French regulators to evaluate it as a fix for the issue
- France approved the amendment and dropped the threat of recalling all iPhone 12 units sold domestically
At the time, Apple used iOS 17.1 to address the non-issues raised by non-standard testing. Apple has always disagrees that the iPhone 12 has exceeded radiation emission standards, while claiming that it is safe to use. The iPhone 12 has been deprecated for a long time, but the 2020 model still receives iOS updates, and some people use it.
After dealing with complaints with a software update released three years after the iPhone 12 was introduced in France, Apple is preparing a software update five years after the iPhone 12 was introduced in the EU.
“We continue to oppose the French ANFR testing approach,” Apple said in a statement provided to the media. The statement states that Apple will “respect the European Commission’s decisions” in future software updates for the iPhone 12, and that customers will “have full confidence to use the iPhone 12 as usual.”
