Apple accused of inflating self-service repair prices to promote purchase of new iPads

Over the past few years, Apple has made some advances in self-service repair possibilities. This has been receiving years of criticism for how closely it locks the device. Now, the new report questions how much repair regulations Apple actually complies with.

Not worth it

in 404 Media This week’s post, an independent repair expert says Apple’s new available iPad parts are very expensive and can be repaired economically.

Their paper says that Apple effectively wants to discourage users from modifying their devices and direct them to buy new ones instead.

“Apple today announced an addition to iPad self-service repairs, providing iPad owners with access to repair manuals, authentic Apple parts, Apple diagnostic sessions, tools and rental toolkits. Pro) is providing support for ports. Today’s announcement will allow customers and independent repair providers to further expand their customers and independent repair providers, including new details about the authentic parts distributor program.

According to repair experts like Brian Clark, the problem is 404 Media,The costs are as follows:

“Clark said the iPad A16 digitizer is $200. That portion can be purchased from third-party suppliers for $50, and the iPad A16 is selling new from Apple for $349.

This post gives other examples of self-service repairs cost around half the price of a new iPad.

It also suggests that self-service repairs will curb the remaining costs and that independent shops will ultimately benefit as Apple stores are not equipped to handle massive complex iPad repairs (although that shift hasn’t happened yet).
