According to a second report, Apple’s iPhone shipments in the second quarter reached a record high despite the market slump.
In addition to Counterpoint Research’s previous report showing that Apple posted record iPhone shipments in the second quarter, Omdia released its own numbers showing similar record performance. Here are the details:
Omdia warns of further sharp decline in future
Earlier today, we covered a Counterpoint Research report that presented preliminary data on global smartphone shipments for Q2 2026.
Counterpoint said in its report that Samsung led the market with a 24% shipment share, up from 20% in the same period last year. Apple followed with 20%, up from 17%, while Xiaomi dropped from 14% to 12%, OPPO from 12% to 11%, and vivo from 9% to 8%.
Well, breaking news from Omdia (via mac magazine) indicates that the estimates are slightly different, but the overall trend is the same.
Omdia expects Samsung to sell at 22%, up from 20% in the second quarter of 2025, followed by Apple at 20%, up from 16%. Xiaomi decreased from 15% to 11%, OPPO from 12% to 10%, and vivo from 9% to 8%.
Apple’s results for the quarter according to Omdia are as follows:
Apple had its best second quarter ever, gaining a record 20% market share in what is traditionally its slowest quarter of the year. The iPhone 17 series delivers the most powerful iPhone refresh and upgrade cycle in Apple’s history. Apple also benefited from stable pricing while most competitors were forced to raise prices. But as Apple raised prices on other products toward the end of the second quarter, a key question remains how much the iPhone will be affected by similar hikes later this year.
Unsurprisingly, Omdia said overall shipments declined 4% year over year due to the ongoing memory crisis, making Q2 2026 the market’s weakest quarter since Q2 2023.
Omdia also warned that the sharp decline in shipments will continue.
We expect the steepest volume declines to occur in the next two quarters. This quarter, normal seasonal demand peaks caused by new product launches, holidays, and shopping festivals collide with constrained memory chip supply.
