Google announced its next smart speaker

Google’s Gemini for Home chief product officer dropped a public hint that a new Google Home speaker was imminent, and Anish Katukaran’s Reddit post urged users to keep a close eye on their inboxes over the next week.

Kattukaran’s post, shared on the Google Home subreddit, primarily thanked users for their feedback on Gemini for Home, but the closing words for users who are “patiently waiting for a specific speaker” add significant weight to existing leaks suggesting a late June release.

A Best Buy Canada listing that surfaced earlier this month had already hinted at a June 25, 2026 release date for the device, but Kattukaran’s cryptic confirmation makes that schedule coincide with what would be the last week before that date, giving the retailer the credibility it previously lacked on its own.

The original Google Home speaker was launched in the US in 2016, and the highly anticipated device is the first new entry into the line in nearly a decade, after years when Google’s smart speaker offerings were mostly limited to the Nest Audio and Nest Mini rather than a full-fledged successor to Home.

According to the price details of Best Buy Canada’s listing, the new speaker will cost $140 CAD, which is roughly on par with Nest Audio’s $100 USD price range, and the listing also shows it in Hazel and Porcelain color options.

Google last updated its smart speaker lineup in 2020 with the Nest Audio. This means the highly anticipated device will be the company’s first new full-size home speaker in six years.

It’s still unclear whether the device will be sold directly or if pre-orders will begin first, but based on how the company typically rolls out its hardware, it seems likely that we’ll see a formal announcement from Google rather than a full retail launch next week.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
