Google has made its third improvement to Gemini for Google Home, increasing the Assistant’s ability to understand natural language commands and respond more accurately to everyday requests.
This update expands Gemini for Home’s regional reach beyond the US and Canada for the first time, adding Mexico to the list of supported markets, and already brings Spanish language support to Google Home users in North America, rolling out as part of Google Home version 4.12.
Children with supervised Google Accounts on a Google One family plan will also have access to Gemini for Home, expanding the reach of the Assistant in households that rely on parental controls to manage young users’ access to connected devices.
Smarter home control and faster response
The lighting controls have received a meaningful upgrade, allowing Gemini to interpret descriptive color requests rather than requiring exact color names. That means if you ask for the color of the ocean or the glow of the moon, the Assistant will automatically find the right shade.
This update provides even more granular control over the appliance, allowing users to issue commands like setting a specific humidity level or preheating a smart oven to a precise temperature through natural language, rather than manually navigating device-specific controls.
Climate Management now adds support for temperature presets and the ability to clear active mode without cycling settings, making a simple command like “Unset Thermostat Heat” sufficient to disable active climate settings across supported devices.
Gemini’s device recognition has also been improved, allowing the assistant to better distinguish between similar items like lamps and lights, reducing the types of misidentifications that previously sent commands to the wrong device and frustrated users in the middle of daily tasks.
Gemini Live users also get improved news summaries, with this update making briefings more detailed and interactive and introducing the ability to ask follow-up questions on individual stories within the same session.
Google has confirmed that the rollout is underway and will expand to more families and markets through an early access program in the coming weeks.
