Apple says customers should “update iOS to protect iPhone from web attacks”

Apple has published a new support document recommending customers update to the latest iOS version to “protect your iPhone from web attacks.”

“Security researchers recently identified a web-based attack that targets older versions of iOS through malicious web content,” the support document states.

“For example, if you are using an older version of iOS and click a malicious link or visit a compromised website, the data on your iPhone could be at risk of being stolen,” the company said.

Apple also said that “when these issues were discovered, we thoroughly investigated them and released software updates for the latest operating system versions as soon as possible to address the vulnerabilities and prevent such attacks.”

Earlier this month, Apple rolled out a security update to older iPhones and iPads running iOS 15 and iOS 16.

Important security update has arrived

Apple says devices running iOS 13 and iOS 14 “must update to iOS 15 to receive these protections and will receive additional warnings to install important security updates in the coming days.”

iOS 26.3.1 is the latest public version of iOS. Apple also continues to update iOS 18 with iOS 18.7.6 released this month.

Older devices that cannot run iOS 18 or later must run iOS 15.8.7 and iOS 16.7.15 to receive the latest security updates.

Apple also released its first background security improvements for multiple devices this week.
