SmartGym, Apple’s 2023 Apple Watch App of the Year, is rolling out a new update today that delivers some of its most long-requested features. Here’s a new feature.
Support for Strava sync and third-party workouts is here
Starting today, SmartGym users will be able to sync their progress with Strava. This means that any workout recorded in SmartGym will automatically appear in Strava as well.
According to app developer Matt Abras, “Strava syncing was a very popular request,” and multiple adjustments were needed behind the scenes to provide it.
Since SmartGym runs independently on the Apple Watch and many users work out without an iPhone, SmartGym had to take into account that workouts would be recorded and synced without a paired phone nearby.
As a result, workouts recorded directly on your watch can now appear in Strava without any manual steps.

In addition to Strava sync, SmartGym now also offers support for third-party workouts, essentially aggregating workouts recorded in other apps.
So if you use other workout apps, like Apple Fitness+ or the Apple Watch’s built-in workout app, you can view those sessions directly in SmartGym, which acts as your central workout dashboard.

Today’s update also introduces:
- The time range for all progress graphs is flexible: full time, 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year.
- New, more customizable sharing options and templates (including new transparency options) for users who want to share their progress on social media.
- Customization per unit of measurement. Users can individually set weight units (Kg/lbs), distance units (km/miles), and measurement units (cm/inches).
