Belkin is officially discontinuing most of its Wemo smart home accessories, with support ending on January 31, 2026.
Customers will no longer have access to app control, remote functionality, and technical support for nearly all older Wemo devices. The only exception applies to accessories that integrate with Apple HomeKit or Thread and will continue to function after the deadline.
This also means the Wemo app will no longer be supported, and remote access and voice assistant integration will no longer work. Support for firmware updates and troubleshooting will also be discontinued. The company has begun sending final reminders to affected users, urging them to prepare for the shutdown.
However, Wemo devices configured with HomeKit or Thread, such as Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way, Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller, Wemo Smart Plug with Thread, and Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera, will continue to work.
The move has sparked frustration among Wemo’s longtime customers, with some calling it a warning against investing in abandonable hardware. Comparisons were drawn to Google’s controversial decision to discontinue support for the older Nest Thermostat, highlighting the risks of relying on a cloud-dependent smart home ecosystem.
Belkin says customers with Wemo products still under warranty after January 31, 2026 may be eligible for a partial refund. For those looking for alternatives, recommended options include the Kasa Smart Plug Mini, Aqara Smart Doorbell Camera with HomeKit Secure Video, Kara Matter Smart Outdoor Plug, and Kasa HomeKit Smart Light Switch.
The list of discontinued devices is extensive and covers products launched through 2015, including Wemo Link, Wemo humidifier, Wemo CrockPot, Wemo coffee maker, Wi-Fi baby monitor, Wemo motion sensor, Wemo Insight, and multiple generations of Wemo light switches and smart plugs. Even newer models like Wemo Outdoor Plug (2023) and Wemo Mini Smart Plug (2023) are affected.
Therefore, users who rely on the Wemo app or cloud functionality should prepare for an immediate shutdown. If you want to maintain functionality, you’ll need to make sure your device is set up with HomeKit or Thread by the end of the month.
