Wyze has launched a new battery video doorbell designed to make smart home security a little simpler and significantly less reliant on wires.
This new model is available now for $65.98, works for up to six months on a single charge, and installs in minutes using the included mounting hardware. This is an attractive upgrade for homeowners and renters who don’t want to drill or rewire.
Despite its low price, the Wyze Battery Doorbell packs plenty of luxury. Its 150° x 150° field of view and 1536 x 1536 HD+ resolution creates a clear image from the front of your door, from your visitor’s head to the luggage at their feet. The 1:1 aspect ratio also means fewer blind spots, which is one of the main pain points Wyze wanted to fix.
The doorbell supports two-way and auto-response messages such as “Please leave your package at the door,” as well as motion notifications to alert you to deliveries and visitors. Those who subscribe to Wyze’s Cam Plus service also get access to AI-powered person and package detection.
Users can also hardwire the device for continuous power and 24/local recording via a microSD card up to 256 GB for added flexibility. It supports IFTTT, Google Assistant, and Alexa and easily integrates with most smart home setups. The doorbell is also IP65 weatherproof, and alerts can be sent indoors via your existing mechanical chime or the optional Wyze Wi-Fi chime.
According to Wyze co-founder Dave Crosby, the product was created to address two common user annoyances: complicated wiring and porch blind spots, making it easy and affordable to set up.
For less than $70, the Wyze Battery Video Doorbell aims to make home security less of a hassle rather than reinvent it, and that may be exactly what most people want.
