While the iPhone 17 Pro was a big hit among users, the iPhone Air is said to be selling poorly despite receiving high praise from owners. However, rumors suggest that two features from the iPhone 17 Pro may be added to the iPhone Air 2, which could help the next-gen product become even more successful.
#1: Vapor chamber for cooling, improved performance
On the surface, having a vapor chamber in the iPhone 17 Pro might not seem all that appealing. However, the latest Pro features are a welcome addition, as both the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro suffered from overheating.
Now, according to a report from information In November, Apple will also include a vapor chamber in the iPhone Air 2.
Apple describes the benefits of the iPhone 17 Pro vapor chamber as follows:
The new internal architecture features an Apple-designed vapor chamber to improve heat dissipation and performance. Deionized water is sealed inside a vapor chamber and laser welded to the aluminum chassis to draw heat away from the powerful A19 Pro, allowing it to operate at even higher performance levels. Heat is transferred through a forged aluminum unibody that distributes it evenly throughout the system, managing power and surface temperatures to deliver incredible performance while maintaining a comfortable grip.
In other words, the vapor chamber helps your iPhone achieve higher sustained performance levels while staying cool to the touch.
This is not just about usability. The vapor chamber also prevents significant speed drops that can be an issue when gaming or taking photos. This is something I recently encountered with my iPhone Air.
#2: Mysterious second rear camera
The iPhone Air 2 is also expected to include one of the additional rear cameras found on the iPhone 17 Pro.
Several reliable sources support the idea of Apple adding a second rear camera to the upcoming iPhone Air.
However, no source seems to know exactly which cameras will be added.
The iPhone 17 has two cameras, and the second lens is ultrawide. So giving the ultrawide to the iPhone Air 2 seems like the most likely outcome.
However, it’s also possible that Apple chooses to add a telephoto lens instead.
Telephoto cameras have long been associated with “Pro” iPhones, and Apple touted the original iPhone Air as having “Pro power.” Maybe that’s the planned direction for the iPhone Air 2.
Either way, as a big fan of the current iPhone Air, I hope the addition of a second rear camera will make this product more popular with those looking to upgrade. This product has a bright future ahead of it.
