Way back in 2009, Apple added a very useful feature to the iMac that allowed you to use it as a monitor for another Mac (usually a MacBook). This feature, known as Target Display Mode, was unfortunately removed by the company from models launched in late 2014 and was never brought back.
If you want to do the same with your new iMac, there’s an app for that, as we explained last year. But Quinn Nelson of Snazzy Labs opted for the ultimate transformation instead…
We should start by repeating the following warning: mac world:This is not a job for the faint of heart. You will need to purchase new display drivers, audio boards, power supplies, fan controllers, transformers, and adhesives. Additionally, you will need appropriate skills for electronics projects such as disassembly, soldering, crimping, connecting, and testing.
But if you spend the money and put in the effort, you can get a very beautiful Apple display. method Cheaper than buying an Apple Studio Display. While it certainly doesn’t have the same resolution, Quinn says it’s much better quality than any other monitor you can get for the same price.
All the resources you need and the steps to follow are illustrated here. Quinn wryly observes that by the time the display drivers arrive from China, they will be online.
Check out the video below to see exactly how it’s done.
