Tewke’s Tap smart light switch is quietly turning into something much more than a light controller.
The UK-based company has announced a series of upgrades that add motion sensing, detailed home health monitoring, deeper energy insights, and future Google Gemini assistance. All of this is provided through over-the-air updates.
At its core, Tap is still an alternative to a standard wall switch, but now it brings much more context to your home. Users can already see room temperature, humidity, CO₂ levels, and overall air quality directly in the Tap app, with the option to track that data over time. This makes it easier to identify patterns, such as increased humidity that could lead to mold growth or CO₂ spikes that could be affecting concentrations.
Lighting automation is also getting smarter. Tap now supports motion-based lighting, so lights automatically turn on when you enter a room and turn off again when the room is empty. Scheduling has also been expanded to allow you to change lighting scenes throughout the day, including before and after sunrise and sunset, without manual input.
One of the more distinctive updates coming later this year is two-stage motion detection. When you walk past it, the Tap switch temporarily acts as a display for things like a clock, and then returns to full control when you get closer. Over time, users will be able to customize what they see on their screen through the app.
Energy is also a big focus. Tap already displays real-time prices for variable fees, helping users determine when it’s cheapest to use their appliances. In early 2026, smart meter integration will expand this view to entire home energy usage, while new historical reports within the app will highlight trends and potential savings.
Looking further into the future, Tewke plans to introduce TewkeAI, a voice-activated assistant powered by Google Gemini. Unlike an always-listening speaker, it’s designed to be triggered by the user, asking questions and displaying visual answers on the switch itself.
All of this is achieved without rewiring, hubs or extensive installation work, reinforcing Tap’s ambition to make advanced home automation simple, subtle and truly useful.
