Shark Steam & Scrub Automatic Steam Mop Review

Affordable and easy to use Shark Steam & Scrub Automatic Steam Mop combines steam buds with dual spinning microfiber pads to lift dirt without the need for detergent. Steam Blaster mode helps you tackle stubborn stains easily, making your hard floor look the best. Although not designed to pick up solids, microfiber pads require replacement and cleaning once they’re done clean, shark steam is perfect for small, hard floor spaces. It’s small and needs to be plugged in, but packed with punch.

  • Smooth gliding action

  • Removal of large stains

  • Hot steam explosion for stubborn dirt

Shark Steam & Scrub Automatic Steam Mop: Introduction

Cordless hard floor cleaners that scrub vacuum and scrub at the same time as the Roborock Dyad, Mova X50, and Dyson V15S Submarine have become popular. But they tend to be on the expensive side.

The Shark Steam & Scrub automatic steam mop with Steam Blaster (model number S8201UK) we are reviewing here is a much simpler and budget-friendly alternative.

The steam pairs with efficient clean, dual-spin microfiber pads, while the steam blaster function directs high-pressure steam jets with stubborn dyeing.

Design and Build

  • Three Power Modes
  • Handles it with a Steam Blaster trigger
  • Removable water tank
  • Dual Microfiber “Dart Grip” Mopping Pad

It looks very similar to the previous version of the Shark Steam & Scrub Automatic Steam MOP (S6002UK), but the new model has lots of great things from the old siblings, but adds killer features.

Both the old and newer models work by pushing steam into a rotating microfiber pad, while the new S8201UK introduces the Steam Blaster feature.

Below the top of the handle is a trigger that activates a new feature, and when pulled, the steam blaster releases a concentrated steam burst from the nozzle on the front of the floor head.

Designed for dirt within 5-10cm of the nozzle, it is recommended that sharks spray and wait a few seconds before continuing cleaning.

It looks like a Helluva, which resembles the previous generation’s model, with the white shade replacing the pale blue shade, but aside from that, there is no dramatic change here.

Standing above 120cm tall is the handle and trigger (and the top of the cable tidy bracket) which has an aluminum pole that slots into the main unit.

Its main unit consists of a window to the water tank, a basic three-light display of modes, and a button toggle between these modes.

At the bottom is a rotating disc that simply pushes down, clamping it down onto a microfiber pad that Sharkninja calls “Dirt Grips.” Put four of these in the box.

The water tank is quite small with a capacity of 350ml, and as we’ll explain later, it’s enough to make some rooms.

Shark Steam & Scrub Automatic Steam Mop is not a cordless machine. It needs to be plugged in and the cable is only 5m long.

Features and performance

In testing, Steam Blaster did short dry, messy tasks like Ketchup, Mustard, Milk, and even crude dry cat food, cleaning it heavily at home.

In more general uses, the MOP behaves in the same way as its predecessor. The 350ml water tank must be removed and filled with cold water before use. The machine relies on steam for steam removal and bashing bacteria, so there is no option to add a cleaning solution.

350ml is not that great, but I found it to hold enough to clean the kitchen, dining room and downstairs hallways.

There are three cleaning modes, light, usually deep (usually deep). So you can choose how to work between different floor types and levels of dirt. You only live once, so I tend to leave it deep all the time, right?

Once powered on, tilt the handle back and the steam will engage and start a spinning MOP pad at 150 rpm. As those pads start to spin, you’ll actually feel it’s pulling away from you.

Weighing only 3.4kg, the shark easily moves and requires minimal effort to maneuver the floor. It also features LED headlights that are convenient for lighting under skirt boards and furniture.

Its low profile design basically lies flat, so you can clean it under the furniture – and it’s great that it stands upright on its own.

Microfiber pads effectively collect dirt, but you need to remove them cleanly after clean to avoid bacterial buildup and bad odors. There are no flashy heating docks or anything like that.

I zipped the washing machine pads after they were cleaned and they were fine.

As mentioned in the intro, the Shark Steam & Scrub Automatic Steam MOP does not pick up any solid debris, so you need to clean the floor first.

It is different from the Dyson Washg1, which is designed to tackle both wet and dry debris simultaneously without suction. That washg1 is twice (and a little more) than a shark.

performance

  • Perfect for tackling strong stains
  • It does not have the ability to pick up solid fragments
  • I’ll clean it all the way to the edges

I used my home machine to perform most of this shark steam & scrub automatic steam mop review.

However, for a more technical review, we also featured the pace at the CANDR Media Group Test Lab.

Starting with the coffee spill, I lifted the dirt off the laminate floor with a few passes in a bright setting. The same was true for the stains on red wine, with the usual steam and rotating pads being easily removed.

Due to more severe confusion like dry ketchup, we switched to a higher power setting and used the Steam Blaster.

The concentrated vapor burst, followed by a short wait loosened the stain and the mopping pad was able to quickly clean it. This is an impressive performance, demonstrating the MOP’s ability to efficiently handle stubborn marks.

We then tested it with dry mud stains. The normal power settings were sufficient to lift the seeped stains, but the lack of suction in the MOP meant that solid particles were pushed away rather than collected. Another reminder to vacuum first.

Finally, we verified the performance of edge cleaning by applying mustard along the kitchen pedestal. The slightly raised edge of the rotating microfiber pad contacted the edge of the floor and effectively cleaned the baseboard and corners.

Above 51dB, the Shark Steam & Scrub Automatic Steam Mop S8201UK is very quiet and produces only low ham from rotating pads and steam releases.

Final thoughts

If you have small hard floor space, the Shark Steam & Scrub automatic steam mop with the Steam Blaster S8201UK is the best option. It’s powerful, expensive and very easy to use, making it an outstanding option for quick and effective cleaning, especially as it’s steam blown away.

However, it relies on mop pads to collect dirt and lacks suction power, so its cleaning range is somewhat limited compared to its more expensive rivals.

But if you have small hard floor space and already have dust and debris that has been tackled by the robot cleaner, the Shark Steam & Scrub automatic steam mop is definitely a great choice.
